Why does streaming media or Remote Desktop not work in Windows Vista?

Vista introduced a new feature called “Receive Window Auto-Tuning” which has been reported to cause problems with certain network protocols. You should adjust your network performance by trying the following:

• Start an "Elevated" Command Prompt:
  • Click the Start button
  • In the Search box, type: Command Prompt
  • Right-click on the Command Prompt icon and select "Run as administrator"
• A black window will appear. In it, type the following command and press <Enter>

netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

• Try refreshing the page with the video player.

I use Netscape and sometimes when I go to play a sound file or open a PDF, or play a video the wrong application opens up?

This is because the plug-in you want to use is overridden by another program. To fix this problem you need to perform the following:

1) Select Help (from the menu bar). Click on About Plug-ins. Then scroll through the plug-ins until you find the file type that is causing the problem. Note the plug-in (DLL) that references that file type. This plug-in most likely is the plug-in that is causing the problem and needs to be disabled.

2) Using windows explore go to the sub-directory for Netscape plug-ins. You should find the directory under c:\netscape\communicator\program\plugins. Once in the directory find the misbehaving plug-in and rename the DLL to OLD. This disables the DLL without deleting it . That way if you find you still want the bad DLL you can rename it back to reactivate it.

3) Close Netscape and reopen it. The bad DLL should be Gone. If you are still having a problem repeat step 1 to verify you removed the right DLL correctly.
